Airlines suspend in-flight alcohol service during pandemic

If you’re expecting to have the chance to grab a cold one while in flight to your next destination, don’t.

Airlines around the world, including Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, domestically, are halting alcoholic beverage service in response to the coronavirus.

According to CNN, the move is part of “a widespread revision of the industry’s food and drink service to minimize interaction between crew and passengers and to ensure a safer journey for all.”

CNN reports that many of the airlines have already limited drink options to water only and are mandating that masks be worn at all times — except for eating or drinking. They say the water only policy ensures passengers don’t linger over their refreshments for “longer than necessary.

Delta won’t be serving alcohol on domestic flights within the United States, but will offer the service on international flights.

Meanwhile, American Airlines will limit food and drink service in the main cabin, but will base the policy on flight length and destination. Alcohol will be available for customers seated in First Class and international flights.

There’s always the option to bring your own beverages and snacks aboard a flight. Just not booze.
