Woman who fell down steep hill below Bigelow Boulevard rescued by Pittsburgh first responders

A woman who is believed to have fallen from a retaining wall to the hillside below Frank Curto Park was rescued by City of Pittsburgh first responders on Saturday. Rescue crews devised a rope rescue plan using a Stokes basket and a firetruck to pull her to safety.

Pittsburgh Public Safety personnel rescued a woman on the hillside below Frank Curto Park on Bigelow Boulevard on Saturday afternoon after employees at a car dealership below heard her screaming.

The woman, who is in her 30s, likely fell from a concrete retaining wall she had been sitting on, a city spokeswoman said.

Employees at the Audi dealership on Liberty Avenue in the Strip District heard someone screaming on the hillside above the business and called 911 about 11:30 a.m.

First responders said the woman was about 40 feet from where she had fallen.

Pittsburgh EMS, firefighters and police officers devised a rope rescue plan to descend the rough terrain to reach the woman, stabilize her and hoist her to safety.

Five first responders descended the hill as part of the rescue, and a firetruck was used as a high purchase point to raise the woman above the wall to safety, police said.

She was taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition.
