Seton Hill University is celebrating its good fortune on surpassing a $10 million centennial fundraising goal for scholarships at the Catholic university.
The Greensburg-based school that celebrated its 100th anniversary last year announced Monday it has beat its goal, raising slightly more than $10 million from alumni and other backers who agreed to fund 119 scholarships with gifts of $10,000 or more.
The success of Seton Hill’s scholarship fund drive follows a decade that has seen the university underwrite campus renovations and expansions that grew its campus from a hill at the edge of Greensburg into the heart of the city.
In an era when student debt has grown dramatically, such scholarships are playing an increasing role in helping students close the gap to pay for college.
Seton Hill President Mary C. Finger said the generosity of the scholarship donors helps ensure that the shared vision of the Sisters of Charity and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton — that everyone deserves access to education — will continue at Seton Hill.
