Chris Brussalis, chairman of The Hill Group Inc., has been named interim president of Point Park University.

School trustees named him to succeed Donald Green, 58, who resigned two weeks ago. Green, who had been in the job for 18 months, cited “private, personal and family reasons” for his departure.

In addition to his role with The Hill Group, a national management consulting firm, Brussalis is an adjunct professor of management and policy at Carnegie Mellon University.

Prior to the announcement, Brussalis, 58, of Richland, had been a member of Point Park’s board of trustees.

“Dr. Brussalis is a proven leader with a substantial track record of transforming organizations. His passion for higher education as a professor, consultant, civic leader and university trustee is remarkable,” said a statement from Joe Greco, chairman of the board of trustees. “Dr. Brussalis and his family will bring tremendous energy and excitement to the Point Park community.”

Brussalis has taught at the graduate level and provided advice and counsel to groups from Fortune 500 companies, colleges, professional groups and government. He has a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College, a master’s degree in public and business administration from the University of Illinois and a doctorate in higher education administration from Northeastern University, according to Point Park.

Brussalis said in a statement that he was humbled by the appointment.

“I am looking forward to working with our team, our students, proud alumni and community to accomplish great things for our students and region,” he said.

At Point Park, the news of Green’s departure came less than two weeks into the spring semester and would likely mean another presidential search for a permanent successor coming not long after the one that brought Green to campus. Tuesday evening’s announcement did not mention a presidential search or a timetable for one.

Point Park’s private Downtown campus enrolls about 3,300 students.
