Video: SUV swallowed by sinkhole in Easton street
2019 may have to go out as the year of the sinkhole — at least in Pennsylvania anyway.
On Monday, surveillance from a doorbell camera showed an SUV falling into a sinkhole as it approached a stop sign in the city of Easton.
Located in Northampton County, Easton is 55 miles north of Philly.
According to Allentown station WFMZ, the driver managed to exit the black Suburban and wasn’t seriously hurt.
The vehicle, which sat nearly perpendicular to the roadway, was in that position for more than an hour, the station reported.
The cause of the sinkhole was because of a water main break in the area, according to the city’s mayor.
It is the second sinkhole within a few weeks in the area.
Pittsburgh fell into its own sinkhole woes in October, when a Port Authority bus traveling Downtown was swallowed on 10th Street between Penn and Liberty avenues.
