Kraft Heinz Foods on Nov. 15, 2019, recalled 9,500 cases of Breakstone’s cottage cheese, including 16-ounce containers of the 2% milkfat lowfat large curd variety.

Kraft Heinz Foods has recalled 9,500 cases of its Breakstone’s cottage cheese because the product might contain pieces of red plastic and metal.

The company said it issued the voluntary recall after a consumer reported finding a piece of red plastic in a container of the cottage cheese. According to the company, six such complaints were received as of Friday , but no resulting injuries or illness were reported.

The foreign material may have been introduced to the cottage cheese during the production process, Kraft Heinz said.

The recall applies to three varieties of Breakstone’s cottage cheese sold in plastic cups with a “best when used by” date of Dec. 10, 2019: 16-ounce 2% milkfat lowfat large curd; 24-ounce 4% milkfat large curd; 24-ounce 4% milkfat small curd.

The company cautions consumers not to eat the affected cottage cheese and advises them to return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.

Questions may be directed to the company weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at 1-866-572-3805.
