Police searching for suspect after shooting at Luzerne County Walmart
Pennsylvania state police are searching for a man believed to have fired several shots near a Walmart in Pittston Township, Luzerne County, according to multiple media reports.
According to WNEP, police said a man fired shots around 4 p.m. today in a shopping plaza parking lot located along Route 315.
A 20-year-old woman was injured and taken to a hospital but her condition is currently unknown. State police told the Times Leader the incident is being treated as an attempted homicide.
“We believe that this is a targeted incident, the public is not in danger at this point,” Sam Sanguedolce, Luzerne County District Attorney, said to WNEP.
“We heard some commotion at our backfire door and so we opened the door and everyone came running in at us. The gentleman from the nail salon who I know personally, handed me a cell phone and said here 911, and so I spoke to 911,” Brandy Astacio, who works at one of the store in the plaza, told WNEP.
“Our first instinct was to go and find this girl who was shot and laying on the ground. We went up there, I found the young lady, gave her some water, asked what happened,” Astacio said. “My boss checked her back and we found two gunshot wounds with exit holes in the front of her. She was scared. She asked if she was going to die.”
Police describe the suspect as a 5′7″ or 5′8″ Black male wearing a blue shirt and hat, dark shorts, and black sneakers at the time of the shooting. They believe he acted alone.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the police.
