Plane carrying passengers collides with tug tractor at Philadelphia airport
A plane carrying 65 passengers, plus crew, that was heading to Kansas City made contact with a tug tractor near a gate at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday.
The plane, flight 4487, was an American Eagle, a regional branch of American Airlines, according to NBC10 and Fox29. It was operated by Republic Airways.
Airport officials told the news outlets that the plane collided with the tug during pushback, which is when the plane is pushed backward from its parking position at the airport gate.
No one on the plane was injured during the incident but the driver of the tug tractor was taken to a hospital for observation.
All of the passengers were placed on a different flight while the plane was taken out of service for inspection.
“We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience this caused,” American Airlines spokesperson Ethan Klapper said to NBC10.
