Pennsylvania reports 76 new covid deaths, while cases, hospitalizations slow

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday reported 76 new coronavirus deaths and 2,786 additional coronavirus cases.

The total number of deaths in the state because of the coronavirus stands at 23,787.

The state’s seven-day average is at 2,569 cases, and the state’s seven-day case total is 17,984, both down from last Wednesday’s figures. The seven-day average has trended down in February - it is down 19% from last Wednesday and down 72% since the beginning of the month.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is 920,634.

Allegheny County recorded 250 new cases Wednesday, bringing their total cases to 75,500, while Westmoreland saw 68 new cases for the day bringing their total cases to 26,497.

Allegheny and Philadelphia County (268) were the only counties to report over 200 cases.

The state noted that more than 3.8 million people the state have tested negative for the virus.

According to the state, there are 66,237 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes, and 12,879 cases among employees, for a total of 79,116 at 1,566 facilities. Approximately 24,531 of the total cases in the state are among health care workers.

According to state data, the number of residents who are hospitalized for the virus is 1,972, down 13 from Tuesday, which was up from Monday. Hospitalizations have been below 2,000 for the last four days.

As of Wednesday, the state reported that 1,474,479 people had received at least one dose of a covid vaccine and 559,644 had been fully vaccinated (received both doses). Pennsylvania began receiving covid vaccines in mid-December.

The state’s vaccination numbers do not include Philadelphia, which is which is its own jurisdiction. According to the Philadelphia covid-19 vaccine dashboard, 177,387 had received at least one covid vaccine dose, with 90,454 fully vaccinated.
