Pennsylvania reports 50 covid deaths, cases rise, hospitalizations fall

Pennsylvania Department of Health on Thursday reported 50 new coronavirus deaths, 3,028 additional coronavirus cases and 1,628 people hospitalized for the virus.

Of the deaths newly reported Thursday, 10 are from this month, 37 are from February, one is from January and two are from December.

The total number of deaths in the state because of the coronavirus stands at 24,219.

The state’s seven-day average cases is at 2,636, and the state’s seven-day total cases is 18,449, up 8.5% from last Thursday’s figures.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is 941,439.

Philadelphia County had the most new cases with 338, followed by Allegheny (276), Montgomery (216) and Bucks (212). Westmoreland saw 56 new cases for the day

According to the state, there are 67,544 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes, and 13,291 cases among employees, for a total of 80,835 at 1,562 facilities. About 25,032 of the total cases in the state are among health care workers.

According to state data, the number of residents who are hospitalized for the virus is 1,628, down 20 from Wednesday. Hospitalizations have been below 2,000 since Feb. 20.

As of Wednesday, the state reported that 1,014,196 people had received at least one dose of a covid vaccine and 826,201 had been fully vaccinated (received both doses). Pennsylvania began receiving covid vaccines in mid-December.
