Who isn’t up for a bit of fun?

But what is fun? We all define fun differently, and that’s the point behind a new survey that ranks our great 50 states in order of their fun factor.

WalletHub has crunched a lot of numbers — attractions, restaurants, golf courses, beaches, national parks, nightlife, and beer and wine prices — and came up with their ranking of the funnest states.

And, lucky us, Pennsylvania came in at number 8 — up a notch from 2018’s ninth place ranking.

While the Keystone State didn’t top any subgroup, we didn’t fare too badly in each. For instance, in the “per capita” departments, we ranked 6th for restaurants, 7th in movie theaters, 6th for golf courses and country clubs, 8th for amusement parks, and 7th for fitness centers.

As for our neighboring states, only New York bested us, at No. 3. Ohio comes in at 13, Maryland at 22, and New Jersey at 33. West Virginia? Yeah, they came in dead last.

WalletHub’s sources included the U.S. Census Bureau, National Park Service, American Gaming Association, TripAdvisor, Beachapedia, and their own research.

Pennsylvania’s ranking is rather interesting, seeing as WalletHub’s fall ranking of the funnest cities had only two entries from the state — Philadelphia at 17 and Pittsburgh at 25. So, that must mean there’s a ton of fun stuffed in the rest of the state.
