'Jeopardy’ contestants make quick work of ‘Made in Pa.’ category
Some famous Pennsylvania-made products were featured last night, Tuesday, March 21, 2023, on the long-running game show “Jeopardy!”
The three contestants even included a Pennsylvania woman - the returning champ Melissa Klapper of Merion Station in Montgomery County.
Klapper won again last night and has a two-day total of $42,200. Oddly enough, Klapper, who started the game as the champion, did not select the “Made in Pa.” category first and did not answer any of the “Made in Pa.” questions.
The “Made in Pa.” category was certainly timely - the PA Chamber of Business and Industry is in its second week of its “The Coolest Things Made in Pa.” bracket-style competition on Twitter that features 32 Pa. businesses and their products.
Back to “Jeopardy!”
Just before the first commercial break, contestant Charlotte Diffendale from Albany, New York, jumped into the category with the first question for $200.
The clue was - “Seen here this iconic confection is made by the family-owned Just Born candy company in Bethlehem.”
Diffendale correctly answered, “What are Peeps?”
Diffendale and the third contestant, Brandon Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, owned the rest of the Made in Pa. category.
Diffendale correctly answered “What is Crayola?” to the $400 clue - “Formerly named for founders Binney & Smith, this brand’s colorful products continue to roll out in Easton, Pennsylvania.”
Anderson picked up $600 for his answer “What are guitars?” to the clue, “Fans of these from Pennsylvania’s C.F. Martin & Co. have included Muddy Waters, Hank Williams and Willie Nelson.”
Anderson also snagged the $800 clue, “This company celebrated its 90th anniversary issuing two new special edition lighters for the occasion.” The answer - “What is Zippo?”
And, Diffendale wrapped it up with the $1,000 clue, “X marks the spot for this brand of bakeware and bowls made in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, for over half a century.” She answered correctly, “What is Pyrex?”
None of the contestants were able to answer the final “Jeopardy!″ clue correctly. The category was “Medieval Places.” The clue was, “One of the participants in an 1170 event at this place said, Let us away, knights; he will rise no more.”
The answer was - “What is Canterbury, England?”
