Gov. Josh Shapiro has ordered United States and Commonwealth flags on all facilities, public buildings, and grounds across Pennsylvania to fly at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was shot dead at a university in Utah on Wednesday.
The flags shall remain lowered until sunset on Sunday, Sept. 14.
All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.
In the wake of the shooting, Shapiro posted the following to X: “Political violence has no place in our country. We must speak with moral clarity. The attack on Charlie Kirk is horrifying and this growing type of unconscionable violence cannot be allowed in our society.”
The move by Shapiro came as President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Kirk.
“In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
