A man shot and wounded a would-be intruder Tuesday morning in Mt. Oliver Borough, according to police.
The man, who police did not identify, was allegedly trying to force his way into a 19-year-old woman’s Ormsby Avenue apartment, Allegheny County Police Sgt. Matthew Mineard said in a statement.
The shooting happened about 8:45 a.m., police said.
Investigators said the incident began after the intruder, the woman’s former paramour, damaged her car and then confronted her, according to Mineard. After damaging the car, the man allegedly got into the secure building and tried to get into her apartment.
As the man tried to get inside, the woman’s houseguest, a 21-year-old man, fired a shot. The intruder was hit in the leg, police said.
The intruder took off in his car but was “quickly detained” about three miles away on Watson Street by Pittsburgh Police officers, investigators said. He was taken to the hospital in fair condition.
The woman and her houseguest called 911, and they are cooperating with the investigation, police said.
Mineard said police are working with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges should be filed.
