Police seek car involved in fatal hit-and-run on the West End Bridge, victim thrown over the side
Pittsburgh police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a car they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident early Saturday on the West End Bridge.
The car is described as a “blue or black small sedan with silver wheels; possibly a Hyundai or Honda.”
Police say it will have damage to the passenger side of the windshield.
The vehicle was last seen in the area of Chartiers Avenue.
Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Bourne said police believe the car struck a woman as she walked on the bridge at about 3 a.m. They say the collision knocked her over the railing.
Her body was not discovered in a parking lot under the bridge until about 8:30 a.m. That’s in the 700 block of North Point Drive, in the city’s Chateau neighborhood.
Pittsburgh police did not immediately identify the victim.
Bourne said the victim suffered significant injuries, including to her head.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact the Pittsburgh police Collision Investigation Unit at 412-432-4776.
