Shoppers walk about the Holiday Market in Downtown Pittsburgh on Dec. 11, 2020.

If you’re looking to do more last-minute Christmas shopping, you might have one less day to visit the Peoples Gas Holiday Market.

The popular Downtown market, originally slated to be open in Market Square through Christmas Eve, will shut down a day early to avoid the harsh winter weather Pittsburgh is expecting later this week and into the weekend, according to Richard Hooper, vice president of marketing and communications for Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

But, shopping aficionados, do not fret.

“Extended hours are being implemented to allow shoppers additional time to grab some last-minute gifts in the final week,” said Hooper, in a prepared statement. “Current market hours are from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. through Thursday, Dec. 22; and, weather permitting, 11:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23.”

An arctic blast is expected to hit the region Friday.

Temperatures are expected to drop Friday from the upper 30s and lower 40s before dawn to less than 20 degrees by noon, according to the National Weather Service.

That could be the start of up to five days of sub-freezing temperatures, with the thermometer possibly dropping below zero by Saturday morning.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather, the Downtown Partnership also is also advising holiday shoppers to check its website for the most up-to-date information prior to visiting the market, especially on Friday.

Schedule changes also will be shared via social media; check out @downtownpitt on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
