A 26-year-old Youngwood man who led state troopers on an 11-mile chase at speeds over 100 mph was arrested Sunday after his motorcycle broke down.

William D. Rettinger was riding his motorcycle into oncoming traffic when he passed the intersection of Pine Drive and South Center Avenue in Hempfield at 7:43 p.m., police said.

Trooper Troy Faulk attempted to stop him, but Rettinger drove off, going 85 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Rettinger traveled over 100 mph for nearly7 miles on Route 119, then headed onto Route 31 in East Huntingdon and onto Toll Route 66, according to court documents.

Faulk was able to take Rettinger in custody after the motorcycle broke down near the I-70 westbound exit in Hempfield.

The bike did not have a license plate and Rettinger did not have a valid driver’s license. State police said it was suspended due to a DUI conviction.

Rettinger was arraigned Monday before District Judge Joseph DeMarchis in Jeannette on charges of fleeing and eluding police, driving on a suspended license and multiple traffic citations. He was released from the Westmoreland County Prison on $15,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing June 24 before East Huntingdon District Judge Charles Moore.
