Bicyclists move along the Great Allegheny Passage trail in West Newton.

The annual Yough-N-Roll and Party on the Trail fundraisers along the Great Allegheny Passage are set for Sept. 16.

Riders in the Yough-N-Roll and Family Fun Ride can set their own pace and distance starting from the Boston trailhead. There are 40- and 20-mile options that turn around at Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver or Sutersville, respectively. The Family Fun Ride is 4 miles and turns around at the Twele Road Pavilion.

Rest stops along the way will be stocked with refreshments and snacks. The cost is $25 per rider and $10 for children under 10. Registration for the 40-mile ride starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 20-mile ride at 8:30 a.m.

The Family Fun Ride registration begins at 9. More details are available at thebostontrail.com.

A free community party will follow the rides at the Boston access 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with food, music, raffles, games, local artists and giveaways. Old bicycles will be accepted during the event for underprivileged children and adults. An author will be on hand to discuss the conversion of the trail from a railroad corridor.

The Mon/Yough Trail Council holds the fundraisers to help volunteers maintain 15 miles of trail between McKeesport and the border of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. They formed in 1991.

The Great Allegheny Passage was officially named in 2001. It is an old railroad line that has been transformed into a 150-mile walking and biking trail between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Md.
