Winning lottery ticket sold at Greensburg Shop ‘n Save

A Westmoreland County grocery store sold one of three winning Pennsylvania Lottery tickets drawn over the weekend, according to lottery officials.

The Treasure Hunt ticket with a jackpot totaling about $190,000 was sold at Shop ‘n Save along East Pittsburgh Street in Greensburg. The winner, who was not identified, will split the jackpot with two other people who purchased winning tickets in Delaware and Philadelphia counties. Each person will receive more than $63,330, officials said.

More than 53,300 people won prizes from Treasure Hunt tickets in the drawing. Treasure Hunt debuted in 2007 and requires players to select five numbers between one and 30. To win, all five numbers must match those drawn. Prizes are also given for matching two, three or four numbers.

The jackpot winners matched the numbers 09-15-17-22-30.

Over the past few months, several lottery winners have been identified across Westmoreland County. The latest winner in the county received $153,304 from the Strike It Rich game. The ticket was sold in August at Sheetz along Route 22 in New Alexandria.

That sale came days after winning lottery tickets were sold at three different Westmoreland County businesses. A Cash 5 ticket was sold in Lower Burrell for the Aug. 9 drawing, matching all five balls drawn — 8-35-36-42-43 — to win $800,001, minus withholding.

A Treasure Hunt ticket worth $100,000 was sold at Par Mar 65, a gas station and food mart along Route 982 in Bradenville, Derry Township. The winner was determined during an Aug. 12 drawing. On Aug. 14, a $3 million Diamond Dazzler scratch-off ticket was sold at Colonial Manor Sunoco in Irwin.

While there have been a handful of winners in the region since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, by the end of June, game sales were down slightly compared to the same period last year. According to online records, sales decreased by more than $33,000 by June 30 compared to the same period in 2019.

More than $4.47 billion had been generated through lottery game sales by the end of June this year. Of that, $28.6 million came from Treasure Hunt tickets while a record $3.2 billion in scratch-off games, a $213.5 million increase, were sold in the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Online games also saw record breaking sales, increasing 92% compared to last year. Online lottery sales rose from a pre-covid-19 level of $57.5 million in February to $95.2 million in May, then dropped to $81.7 million in June.
