Westmoreland Veterans Affairs director to be keynote speaker for Smithton dinner
Matt Zamosky, director of Westmoreland County Veterans Affairs, will address those attending an early Veterans Day dinner on Nov. 2.
The program, including presentation of colors and recognition of Vietnam veterans, begins at 6 p.m. at the Smithton Volunteer Fire Department social hall, 609 Center St. It’s sponsored by the Smithton American Legion Post and the affiliated Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Legion Auxiliary groups.
Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Admission is free for local veterans, who must RSVP by calling 724-872-6072. Cost is $10 for family members, guests and community members.
Oct. 30 is the deadline to register by mailing the number of guests and a check payable to American Legion Post 790 to Robert Prah, ATTN: Veterans dinner, P.O. Box 424, Smithton, PA, 15479.
A graduate of Hempfield Area High School, Zamosky served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring in 2006. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, he was a fuels specialist who tended to Air Force One for several years. He completed deployments to areas including Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
After returning to civilian life, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resource management from Seton Hill University.
Zamosky was elected in 2018 to a two-year term as president of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Directors of Veterans Affairs. He is a deputy commander of the 31st District of the American Legion, first vice commander of American Legion Post 982 in Unity Township and a life member of VFW Post 33 in Greensburg.
He also serves on the Seton Hill University Social Work Advisory Board and the Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation Board of Directors.
He co-chairs the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Veterans Advisory Board and is a member of Chapter 98 of The Retired Enlisted Association.
