Westmoreland Night of Worship unites area churches
An estimated 1,400 people came to Greensburg’s Palace Theatre on Friday night to worship.
The inaugural Westmoreland Night of Worship was a free concert that brought together Christian groups from across the county.
Tickets were free but needed to be reserved ahead of time, and all had been taken days before the show.
The band — made up of members from several area churches — played contemporary worship songs that the audience knew well. Many who attended spent the two-hour concert on their feet, hands raised, singing along.
Between songs, pastors came out to lead prayers and talk to the crowd.
“Tonight isn’t about a church, it isn’t about a person,” said Pastor Nick Poole, of Calvary Church in Irwin. “It’s about Jesus; that’s why we’re here.”
Poole said it took about a year and a half to organize the free concert.
Participants included Calvary Church, Word of Life Church in Greensburg, Greensburg Alliance Church and Community Church in Harrison City.
He said he hopes that concert has a ripple effect by bringing churches together to accomplish more than they could individually.
“Our hope is that what happened here tonight can impact churches in all four corners of the county,” he said.
