The Westmoreland Historical Society’s annual Toast the Tour party is set for Sept. 6 at Historic Hanna’s Town in Hempfield. The party precedes the society’s tour of five historic area houses, scheduled for Sept. 14. Here, guests are shown at the 2018 party at Woodcrest Farm in Hempfield.

The Westmoreland Historical Society is offering a first-ever inside view of the restored Hon. John B. Steel House (circa 1910-12), now part of the Westmoreland History Center at Historic Hanna’s Town in Hempfield.

Two period rooms on the first floor and second-floor staff offices will be the setting for the society’s annual Toast the Tour party, which precedes its annual historic house tour.

Set for 6-8 p.m. Sept. 6, the party will feature cocktails, hearty hors d’oeuvres by Rizzo’s Malabar Inn and a guided tour.

The self-guided tour of five area historic homes is scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 14. This year’s featured houses date back to the early 20th century, 1907 – 1927.

“After WWI – the war to end all wars – there was a spirit of optimism and affluence that led to the Roaring Twenties. Some of the houses reflect that grandeur and exuberance,” WHS Executive Director Lisa Hays said in a release. “All display the work of the architects and craftsmen that were working at that time.”

Tickets for Toast the Tour are $70 and require advance purchase. Advance tickets for the Sept. 14 tour are $25.

Tickets are available at 724-838-1800, ext. 210; shop@westmorelandhistory.org; westmorelandhistory.org, and the Westmoreland History Shop in the History Education Center at Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield.

Ticket-holders will receive a map with directions to each location and a keepsake booklet with historical information and photos.
