Westmoreland happenings: Strawberry festivals, rummage sale and hat luncheon
Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, Pa. 15084. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Church news
• No Walls Ministries will have a free vacation Bible school, “Big Fish Bay,” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 20 to 24 at the church, 214 Church St., New Alexandria. There will be dinner each night, songs, crafts and a Bible lesson. A parent must stay if the child is not potty trained. Reservations: nowallspgh.org.
Fundraisers
• Youngwood Lions Club will sponsor a strawberry festival from 4 to 7 p.m. June 3 at Christ United Methodist Church, 100 Lincoln St., Youngwood. Menu: strawberries, ice cream, cake and drinks. No sandwiches will be served. Cost: $7; younger than 12, $3. Proceeds will benefit Youngwood Library.
• Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 1570 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 3 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at the church. Food will be available.
• A sandwich and salad luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 at Heritage United Methodist Church on the Diamond, Ligonier. Menu: pulled pork sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, pasta salad, pie, gob cake, pretzel salad and beverages. Dine in or takeout. Proceeds will benefit local and global missions.
• Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria will sponsor its 64th annual strawberry festival from 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 4 at the church, 1640 Keystone Park Road. Menu: ham barbeques, hot dogs and sauerkraut, potato salad, baked beans, ice cream, strawberries, cake and drinks. There will be a basket raffle.
• A car wash will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 4 in the parking lot of Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St. Sponsored by the church Disciples Hands ministry. Donations will be accepted.
• Community Church of Hecla will have a dessert/cash bingo June 5 at the church, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township. Doors open at 1 p.m. and bingo begins a 2. A light lunch will be available. Details: 724-396-8065 or 724-244-2586.
• The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s annual Hat Luncheon will be June 11 at Greensburg Country Club, 309 Pleasant Valley Road, Jeannette. A champagne reception will begin at 11 a.m. and the luncheon will be at noon. There will a basket auction and a raffle to win a $500 gift certificate to Larrimor’s in Pittsburgh. • Mt. Pleasant American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. June 7 at the post, 752 W. Main St. Lunch can be ordered from the post kitchen. The Appreciation Dinner will be at a later date.
• South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. June 7 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. The program will be about trade dollars. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes for children. Public welcome. Details: 724-984-6611.

Local chapters of the Women’s Business Network have scheduled meetings. Those attending can learn how the group supports the success and growth of women in business. Professional women are welcome and can attend as a guest at no cost. Some meetings will be held online. Call the chapter representative for more information.

• The Mon Yough Chorale will present a concert at 3 p.m. June 5 at Sampson’s Mills Presbyterian Church, 1665 Lincoln Way, White Oak. Donations will be accepted, and refreshments will be served afterward. Masks are optional.
• The pool at Laurelville Retreat Center, Mt. Pleasant Township, is open to overnight guest groups and opens extra spaces to the public. All swimmers must make a reservation by calling 724-423-2624 or email pool@laurelville.org and leave a message. Cost: $6 per person; 2 and younger, free. Hours: noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; and noon to 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Special event
• Mammoth Fest at Mammoth Park, Mt. Pleasant Township, will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 5 on the park lake shore. There will be free parking and admission, a crafts marketplace, music, food, bingo and carnival rides. An all-day activity pass costs $4 and includes unlimited access to carnival rides, a petting zoo, kiddie train rides, bounce houses, Nerf obstacle course and a rock-climbing wall.
