Westmoreland happenings: Quilt show, fall fashion show, band concert, more

Art

• You Are Here Art Gallery, 406 Clay Ave., Jeannette, will host a Halloween-themed exhibit Saturday, Sept. 27, to Nov. 15 at the gallery. An opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Saturday, Sept. 27. Light refreshments will be served. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Fundraisers

• Greensburg-Jeannette Women on the NAACP will host its annual fall fashion show and luncheon from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at Greensburg Country Club, 309 Pleasant Valley Road, Hempfield. This year’s theme is, “Lavishly Platinum Celebrating 70 Years.” Sponsorship opportunities are available. Cost: $60. Reservations required by Oct. 1. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets: checks made out to Greensburg-Jeannette NAACP WIN, can mailed to 1011 Old Salem Road, Suite 111, Greensburg, PA 15601.

• Hilltop Quilters will sponsor a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 108 Dutch Hill Road, Mt. Pleasant Township. There will be a bake sale, food, craft sales, a basket raffle and flea market. Admission and parking are free.

• A trash and treasure sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 624 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Pierogi will be available.

• Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1120 Harvey Ave., Greensburg, will have an indoor/outdoor rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the church. Baked goods and food will be sold. Details: 724-837-3540.

Music

• The Community Bands of Westmoreland County will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Jeannette American Legion, 109 S. Fifth St. The band recently played a joint concert with the Gem City Band from Erie in Erie’s Liberty Park Amphitheater. The group draws members from the county’s five community bands including the Delmont, Jeannette, Kiski Valley, Penn-Trafford and Scottdale community bands.

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
