Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.

Fundraisers

• Herminie Center for Active Adults, 101 Sewickley Ave., is accepting table reservations are being accepted for in indoor flea market planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19. Cost: $5 each. Table reservations: 724-446-3282.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• A denim and diamond designer handbag bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at Greensburg Hose Company No. 1, 6 McLaughlin Drive, Hempfield. Cost: $35 in advance, $40 at the door; includes eight regular games, refreshments and a chance for a door prize. Cards will be sold for four specials. • Fairview Church of God will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at the church, 2202-2206 Route 982, Mt. Pleasant Township. Lunch and baked goods will be available.

• St. Cecilia Church will have a burger bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at the church pavilion, 220 St. Cecilia Road, Whitney. Menu: hamburgers with or without cheese, fries and soft drinks. Dine-in or takeout. Details: 724-423-3777.

• West Newton Public Library, 124 N. Water St., will have a two-day outdoor fill a bag sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 and 27 in the library parking lot. In case of rain, the sale will be canceled. Cost: $5 per bag. Details: 724-633-0798.

• New Alexandria Center for Active Adults will have a bingo Aug. 20 at the center, 207 W. Main St. Doors open at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon and bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $20, includes lunch and 16 sheets. The center also hosts bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays. Cost: $16, includes 16 sheets. There will be three specials and a jackpot full-card bingo, both for $2 per sheet. Details: 724-668-7005.

• The 29th annual Labor Day poker run to benefit the Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter of the Great Allegheny Passage will begin at the Arthur H. King area of the passage in West Newton, rain or shine. This is a noncompetitive event that will include a 12-mile level bike ride and a 20-mile endurance bike ride, and a four-mile walk, jog or wheelchair ride. Participants walk or ride at their own pace and pick up a playing card at checkpoints along the way to make a poker hand. Each hand is tallied and the person with the best hand in each category receives a prize. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the ride starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost: $25, children, $10. Music

• The Jeannette Business Association and Elliott Group will sponsor a concert from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Elliott Group Amphitheater. The featured group will be Gary Pratt with Katie Szallar. Bring a lawn chair. Food trucks and a beer garden will be on the 400 and 500 blocks of Clay Avenue and South Fifth Street. Rain or shine. No pets, skateboards or bicycles permitted.

Volunteers

• The Blackburn Center in Greensburg will offer weekly online training courses from 5 to 8 p.m. twice per week beginning Sept. 12 for anyone interested in volunteering their time with victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and other crimes. Volunteers answer the 24-hour hotline and offer options, information and referrals. Hours are flexible and volunteers can work from home. Reunions

• The 97th annual Ulery Reunion will be Aug. 28 at Laurel Highlands Campland pavilion, Donegal Township. A buffet lunch will begin at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share. Chicken, table service and coffee will be provided. Details: 724-787-2027.

• Greensburg Salem High School Class of 1962 will have a reunion Sept. 10 at Giannilli’s II, 4816 Route 30, Unity. Classmates who have not received an invitation or want more information should call Charlotte Kemerer at 724-836-5341.

Special events

• Rep. Eric Davanzo is offering free document shredding from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 23 at his office, 119 N. Water St., West Newton. There is a maximum of three bags or boxes. No businesses, please. Details: 724-929-2655.

• Greensburg Garden Center will sponsor a bus trip Sept. 14 to the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in North Fayette Township. The bus will leave at 9:30 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Cost: $85; members, $75, includes transportation, lunch and admission. Reservations required at: 724-837-0245.
