Classes
• Westmoreland Photographers Society will offer a series of classes for beginning and novice photographers at 7 p.m. April 6 and continuing the first Tuesday of each month at Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield. There will be instruction from experienced society members, field trips, computer demonstrations and speakers. Attendees must be society members. Dues are $30 per year; students, $15; and $30 plus $10 for each additional member for families and can be paid at the meeting. Reservations required. Reservations: briankloock@gmail.com.
• Rep. Jason Silvis will host a seminar on Pennsylvania’s concealed carry laws and the Castle Doctrine from 6 to 8 p.m. April 7 at Huber Hall, 300 S. Alexandria St., Latrobe. Representatives from Firearm Owners Against Crime, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office and local and state police will speak and answer questions. The County Sheriff’s Department will issue concealed carry permits. Applicants must be a resident of Westmoreland County and have a valid Pa. driver’s license. Permit cost is $20, cash or check.
Fundraisers
• A Reverse Basketball Game will be at 6 p.m. April 1 in the Latrobe High School gymnasium, 131 High School Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Greater Latrobe and Ligonier Valley high school Interact Clubs. There will be a basket raffle and donations will be accepted for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
• Jeannette American Legion will host a super bingo at 1 p.m. April 3 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Full extra packet and specials available. The kitchen will be open. Details: 724-600-5061.
• Photos with the Easter Bunny for children and pets will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3 in Mayor Dan Rose Park, downtown Irwin. Pets must be restrained. Cost: $10, for a digital photograph to be emailed. Proceeds benefit Pet Friends Inc.
• St. Barbara Parish, Penn Township, will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. April 5 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Please note the date change. Doors open at 5 p.m. Paper packages start at $27. • A workshop to paint a triple-layer wooden bunny will be at 6:30 p.m. April 7 at the lodge at Laurelville Retreat Center, 941 Laurelville Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township. No painting skills required. Special event
• The genealogical library of the Braddock Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 200 S. Church St., Mt. Pleasant, will open to the public for the spring and summer on April 5. Hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays until Sept. 28.
