Westmoreland happenings: Peach festival, turkey dinner, ethnic food sale
Church news
• Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, will have an outdoor worship service at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 on the church front lawn and a potluck picnic will be afterward. Those attending are asked to bring a salad, dessert or side dish to share. Beverages, grilled hot dogs and ice cream will be provided.
• St. James Church, New Alexandria, will commemorate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with an all-day Eucharistic Adoration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at the church, 306 St. James Lane. Benediction will be at 6 p.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m. there will be a children’s program about Eucharistic Adoration. Parents are welcome to stay with their children.
• The Caring Closet at Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St., is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays. Free food, clothing, shoes and more available. Canned and nonperishable food donations are welcome. Call the church to arrange for a pickup. Details: 724-834-2130.

• Visitation Christian Mothers will sponsor a clothing sale Aug. 11 to 13 at Visitation Community Center, 740 Walnut St., Mt. Pleasant. Hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 13.
• First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon will host its annual Peach Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 13 at the church, 501 Fayette St. There will be an antique car show, children’s activities, music by Dave Kroskie, food and a bake sale with peach pies. Details: 724-929-7616.
• Manor Lions Club will host a chicken barbeque from 11 a.m. until sold out Aug. 13 in the parking lot of Roberts Roofing, Route 993, Manor. Menu: half chicken, applesauce, roll, cookie and drink, $10. Proceeds benefit Lions Club charities. Details: jrare4@comcast.net.

• The Disciples Hands team at Greensburg Church of the Brethren will host a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 in the church parking lot, 554 Stanton St. Donations will be accepted. Proceeds will be used to aid the needy.
• An antiques and collectibles sale will begin at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield. Some vendors set up and are open the afternoon of Aug. 13. • A golf outing to benefit the Lamp Theatre will be Sept. 23 at Greensburg Country Club, 309 Pleasant Valley Road, Hempfield. Special events
• The 17th annual Lammas Day Festival will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 14. A procession will begin at 1 p.m. from St. Martin Church, 5684 Route 982, Derry Township, to Fulton House, 857 Pittsburgh St., Derry, where there will be a special blessing of the fields and a corn feast. Sponsored by the Derry Area Historical Society.
• Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries for the annual calendar contest. Photographs should be recognizable as a location in the Ligonier Valley and can include landscapes, special events, landmarks and more. Submission deadline is Aug. 15. Details: 724-238-4200 or Ligonier.com.
• A beach party shop crawl will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 11 in downtown Irwin. There will be special sales and prizes.
