Westmoreland happenings: Peach festival, farmers market, senior citizen news, more
Farmers market
• Independence Health System Westmoreland will host a farmers market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 28 in the administrative parking lot at Westmoreland Hospital, West Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg. Everything sold will be locally sourced and produced by the vendor.
Festival
• First Church of God in West Newton will host its annual peach festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Lions Field House, 551 Pittsburgh St. There will be peach cobbler, sandwiches, salads, and drinks. Details: 724-872-7467.
• The Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Carroll Township, will sponsor its annual doggie paddle from 5 to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 and 29. Small dogs should come Aug. 28 and larger dogs Aug. 29. Pet food and supplies will be collected for Mon Valley Paws. Details: 724-493-8305.
Meeting
• Mon Valley Paws will meet at 6 p.m. at the Italian Club, 112 Seventh St., Monessen. Chairpersons will give their reports on events for the upcoming year. Details: 724-493-8305.
Senior citizen news
• Herminie Center for Active Adults will have a Labor Day party with a miniature golf tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30 at the center, 101 Sewickley Ave., rear. Details: 724-446-3282.
• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have a talk about outdoor safety at 10 a.m. Aug. 27. National Lemon Juice Day will be observed Aug. 29 with a special treat. After lunch there will be a discussion about how to use more herbs and less salt in your diet. Donations are accepted for all activities. Details: 724-787-1760.
