Festival

• The Southwest Greensburg Harvest Festival will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Brandon Street parklet. There will be food, games, a basket raffle and more. Children can bring a candy bucket. Bring a lawn chair.

Fundraisers

• Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church will sell chicken and biscuit dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Cook Township Community Center, Route 711 Dine in or takeout. Menu: biscuits, chicken and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce and homemade desserts. Cost: $9; children, $5.

• St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer, will have the last Dog Days of Summer hot dog sale of the season from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at the church. Combo meals and drinks available. Details: Lil, 724-493-8982.

Health

• Independence Health System Westmoreland will offer wellness check diagnostic screenings by appointment from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Independence Frick Hospital, 508 S. Church St., Mt. Pleasant. Sponsored by Mt. Pleasant Rotary. No walk-ins will be accepted. Appointments and details: 877-771-1234.

Music

• Members of the combined Westmoreland County Community Band will present a free concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Jeannette American Legion, 109 S. Fifth St. The group recently performed at the dedication of the World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C. Members are from the Delmont Concert Band, Jeannette Community Band, Kiski Valley Community Band, Penn-Trafford Community Band and the Scottdale Community Band.

Nature

• The Pennsylvania Master Naturalists will offer a nature journaling workshop from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Brandywine Conservancy, 309 Penguin Court, Laughlintown. Bring snacks to share with 12-14 people. Prepare to be outside for an hour and dress appropriately. Bring rain gear; a chair, sit pad, or blanket; a journal/notebook and pencil. Colored pencils, unlined paper, a clipboard and tape will be available. Cost: $5-20. Reservations required: tinyurl.com/5cjveke7.

Open House

• Westmoreland County Community College will host open house events from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at its Advanced Technology Center in East Huntingdon, and the campuses in Hempfield, Latrobe, Murrysville, New Kensington, Indiana and Uniontown. Seminars

• Eyes Wide Shut Inc. will host a seminar, “The Ugly Truth Behind Facebook and Gaming,” at 6 and 8 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Hempfield Parks and Recreation storefront on the bottom level at Westmoreland Mall. • The Westmoreland Bar Foundation will sponsor a free seminar about elder law mistakes and myths from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 2 at the Westmoreland Museum of Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Parking is available at the site. Reservations required: 724-834-6730 or anna.joyner@westbar.org.

Senior Citizen News

• Super Seniors of Westmoreland County will meet at noon Oct. 1 at Community United Methodist Church, 3487 Route 130, Trafford. George DeMato will entertain. Lunch reservations required by anyone who did not attend the September meeting. Lunch cost: $2. Annual dues: $8. New members welcome. There will be no meeting in November because of the election.
