Art
• An art show featuring the works of Nancy Rusbosin will have an opening reception 5 to 7 p.m. June 13 at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, 237 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg. The exhibition will continue through July 19 during regular library hours. Details: ghal.org.
Father’s Day
• A free Father’s Day Fishing Derby will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16 at Twin Lakes Park. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the boathouse on the lower lake. Contestants must be registered by noon to be eligible for a trophy or prize. First and second prize trophies and merchandise will be awarded for the longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in both adult and youth categories. Flag Day
• Norwin Elks will host a Flag Day observation at 10:30 a.m. June 15 at the lodge, 135 Elks Lane. Members of Cub Scout Pack 253 will display historic flags and the Penn-Trafford Community Band will play patriotic selections. All veterans and active-duty military members are welcome to participate in a military salute to our department servicemen and women. Public welcome. Details: Ted Domin, 724-787-3677.
Fundraisers
• St. Cecilia Church will have a burger bash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 at the church pavilion, 220 St. Cecilia Road, Unity Township. Menu: hamburgers, $3.75; cheeseburger, $4.25; double hamburger $5.50; double cheeseburger, $6; fries, $2; soft drinks and water, $1. Dine in or takeout. Details: 724-423-3777.
• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St., Jeannette. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoke-free venue. Food will be available and there will be a 50-50 and instant bingos. • The fourth annual Mike Reese Memorial 5K Roast, Run and Family event will be July 6 at pavilion 1 in Mammoth Park. Check-in and pack pickup will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will start at 10 a.m. Lunch and entertainment will begin at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $50; younger than 21, $25, includes lunch, drinks and entertainment. Special team rates are available for youth sports teams. Funds raised will provide scholarships to local high school graduates and athletes with limited financial resources who want to participate in travel team programs. • Dogtopia of Greensburg, 131 Donohoe Road, Hempfield, will host a picnic fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. June 15 to highlight the need for service dogs for veterans. Recent service dog recipient Stephany from Ohio will be there with her dog, Sunshine, and there will be picnic food, a dunk tank and special birthday treat in honor of Stephany. Cost: $10, proceeds will benefit the Dogtopia Foundation that funds service pups for veterans. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-461-5839.
• A rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 at Fairview Church of God, 2202-2206 Route 982, Mt. Pleasant Township. Lunch and baked goods will be available.
• Bolivar community yard sales will begin at 9 a.m. June 15. There will be vendor tables at the firehall, 516 Market St., refreshments will be sold and restrooms will be available.
History
• Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield, will host a frontier court living history day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 16. There will be reenactors, military encampments, children’s activities, music and food. A new activity at 2 p.m. June 15 and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty Tree will highlight the role of women on the frontier and their contributions to the American Revolution. Cost: $12; age 6 to 17, $6, 5 and younger, free. Cash only accepted. Usual discounts do not apply for this event. Details: 724-836-1800.
