Church news

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren will host a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St. Dinner is included. Fundraisers

• Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, 4600 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, will have a cookie walk from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the church. Bring a container or use one from the church. Proceeds will benefit the youth summer mission trip. Details: npcemail@newlonsburgchurch.org.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• A Christmas bingo will be at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 7 at St. Barbara Parish, 111 Raymaley Road, Harrison City. Doors open at 5 p.m. Cash payouts will be $140, $150 and $1,400. Packages start at $27 and include regular, special, jackpot and magic number games. There will be early birds, quickies, an all-nighter, 50-50 and games of chance. • Laurelville Retreat Center, 941 Laurelville Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a Yule yoga class at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the center meetinghouse. Must be at least 12 to participate. • First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg will celebrate the arrival of its new grand piano with a free holiday organ and piano recital at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the church, 300 S. Main St. Performers will include William Jeffrey Jones, minister of music and organist, and Edgar B. Highberger, minister of music emeritus. A reception will be afterward.

• A free Advent concert featuring One Voice will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, 617 Main St. Light refreshments and a meet-and-greet will be afterward.

• St. James Church, 306 St. James Lane, New Alexandria, will sponsor a live Nativity from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 on the church grounds. There will be activities for all ages, lessons, carols and refreshments. Details: 724-668-2829.

• West Newton Public Library will host The Nutcracker Land of Sweets Celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at LeGrande Ballroom, 109 S. Second St., West Newton. Meetings

• The Westmoreland County/Laurel Highlands chapter of the American Field Service high school exchange program will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 the One Room Schoolhouse, on the grounds of Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary School, 810 Welty St., Southwest Greensburg. Exchange students will share Christmas traditions from their country and there will be an optional cookie exchange.
