Westmoreland happenings: church services, fish fries and soup sale
Church news
• Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township, will have a drive-thru ashes distribution from 6:30 to 8 a.m. and 3:30 to 5 p.m. today at the church. A worship service with ashes will be at 7 p.m. Details: unionpresbychurch.com.
• A World Day of Prayer service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at West Newton United Presbyterian Church, 411 E Main St. The theme will be, “England, Wales and Northern Ireland.” A light luncheon will be served afterward.
• Greensburg Church of the Brethren will host a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St. Dinner is included. Participants must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver. Donations will be accepted.
• Reservations are being accepted for a bus trip to see, “David,” at the Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster on May 5. Cost: $145. Reservations: 724-872-7467.
Classes
• A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26 at Circleville United Methodist Church, 11600 Parkway Drive, North Huntingdon. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Safe drivers can receive a 5% discount on auto insurance for three years. Fish Fries
• Youngwood Historical and Railroad Museum will host a fish fry from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays through April 15 at the Station Café, 1 Depot St., Youngwood. Menu: fish, haluski, pierogis, homemade chips, desserts and more. Details: 724-925-7355.
• St. Pius X Church, Mt. Pleasant, will sell takeout and drive-thru fish dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays through April 8 at the social hall, 222 Summit St. Menu: fried or baked fish, macaroni and cheese, green beans, coleslaw and garlic bread sticks, $15. Fundraisers
• St. Barbara Parish, Penn Township, will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. The day is changed due to Ash Wednesday. • Lincoln Heights Civic Association will host bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday and March 17 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card bingo board and $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.
• A Las Vegas-style super bingo will be Friday at Marian Hall at St. Bartholomew Church, 2538 Route 119, Crabtree. • Boy Scout Troop 284 of Irwin is conducting fundraisers to help the Scouts travel to Maine and to a summer camp. The troop is selling Easter flowers, pies and flats of flowers.
