Westmoreland happenings: Antique car show, high school reunions, Seniors for Safe Driving class, more

Fundraisers

• The Western Pennsylvania region of the Antique Automobile Club of America will host its 61st annual Paul P. Bell Memorial Antique Auto, Custom and Street Rod Show 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Legion Keener Park, 1658 Catherine St., Latrobe. Entry fee: $15 at the gate. Free admission for spectators. Nonperishable food donations will be accepted for the Westmoreland Food Bank.

Meetings

• The Botanical Society of Westmoreland County will have a business meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Westmoreland Conservation District Barn, 218 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. Guest speakers Penn State Master Gardeners Patti Schildcamp and Dr. Wilma Light will give a presentation, “Native Bees Are Key.” Light refreshments will be served afterward. Annual dues of $15 per household or $10 per person will be collected. Dues for Westmoreland County students are free.

Reunions

• Greensburg High School Class of 1955 will have a reunion Sept. 21 at Ferrante’s Lakeview, 6153 Route 30, Hempfield. Details and reservations: 724-834-4545.

• Norwin High School Class of 1970 will have a reunion Sept. 13 at Greenhouse Winery, 2155 Gracin Way, Sewickley Township. A tent will be reserved and pizza and soft drinks provided. The Sky Pilot Band will entertain. Seating is limited, so bring a lawn chair and snacks. No outside alcohol is permitted. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-216-4123 or bruozzi@gmail.com.

Senior Citizen News

• A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Washington Township Volunteer Firehall, 4078 Route 66. Sponsored by state Rep. Jill Cooper, the class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55. There is no exam or on-the-road driving required. Safe drivers can receive a 5% discount on auto insurance for three years. Cost: $17. Details and registration: 800-559-4880 or seniorsforsafedriving.com.

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
