Westmoreland County on Tuesday became Pennsylvania’s 16th county to surpass 3,000 coronavirus cases.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 60 new cases in the county, bringing the total to 3,053. The state didn’t add any new deaths, leaving the county’s total at 64.
The county added 309 test results, with 36 confirmed and 24 probable, for a daily positivity rate of 19.42%. Overall, the county’s positivity result sits at 6.11%.
The county’s seven-day average is 73 cases, the highest it’s been since the first cases were reported in March. The county’s seven-day total cases of 514 is also the highest it’s been all year.
Westmoreland County coronavirus by dayInfogramAccording to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 34 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county. Westmoreland has 88 ventilators, with 14 in use but just five by covid-19 patients.
The Westmoreland County Prison has seen a coronavirus outbreak with 36 infected inmates and four guards who have tested positive.
Westmoreland County officials announced on Tuesday that five more residents tested positive for the coronavirus at Westmoreland Manor, a county-owned nursing home. That brings the total to 112 residents and 33 staffers infected with the virus since the outbreak was first discovered in mid-September.
