Westmoreland County surpassed 100,000 residents fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to information released Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Westmoreland is the 10th county in the state to hit that mark. In total, there are 100,080 fully vaccinated in the county and 49,232 partially vaccinated.
Overall in the state, nearly 3.8 million people have been fully vaccinated. State health department data shows 3,292,263 fully vaccinated and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, which reports its numbers separately, adds another 500,411.
Allegheny County is approaching the 400,000 mark, with 395,812 fully vaccinated and another 255,077 partially vaccinated. That’s more than 32% of the county fully covered.
Cases
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 242 additional covid-19 cases — 196 confirmed and 46 probable — on Wednesday. The county’s total climbed to 96,670 since the pandemic began last March.
Westmoreland County saw an additional 53 cases, its fourth-lowest total in the past month. The county’s overall total grew to 32,421. Its seven-day daily average of new cases fell to 84, the lowest since it was 82 on March 23.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 3,686 additional cases, with its total increasing to 1,143,076. In the state, Philadelphia had the most cases added Wednesday with 610, followed by Berks (257), Allegheny (242), Montgomery (237) and Bucks (194).

The Allegheny County Health Department added four deaths as its total grew to 1,863. The four deaths included one person in their 20s, two in their 70s and one in their 80s. The state, meanwhile, reported five new deaths in Allegheny County to bring its total to 1,891. The discrepancy between the two health departments hasn’t fully been explained.
The state health department reported 57 additional deaths on Wednesday, with its total climbing to 26,129. Of the 57 deaths newly reported Wednesday, 56 are from April and one is from December.
Westmoreland County added three deaths to bring its total to 741. Elsewhere in the region, Indiana saw three additional deaths, while Butler, Somerset and Washington added two apiece, and Armstrong, Beaver and Fayette increased by one.
April’s actual death toll in the state grew to 834, surpassing June (801) to become the eighth deadliest month of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations
Covid hospitalizations in the state dropped for the seventh straight day on Wednesday, falling to 2,447. In the past week, covid hospitalizations have shrunk by 395 patients.
However, patients requiring ventilators increased by 29 to 278 and covid patients in the ICU fell by 23 to 539 in the state since Tuesday.
Allegheny County had a drop of four covid hospitalizations to 233, with 88 in the ICU and 41 on ventilators. Westmoreland County saw a decline of three hospitalizations, with nine patients in the ICU and six needing ventilators.
