The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Saturday reported a record-setting 83 new cases of covid-19 in Westmoreland County.

Saturday’s total eclipses yesterday’s previous record of 72 new cases.

Three additional deaths were reported, lifting the death toll to 62.

This has been the deadliest week for the county after reporting six new deaths since Monday, including one on Oct. 5 and two on Oct. 8.

To put that in perspective, Westmoreland County reported 3 deaths for the entire month of August.

The county’s total cases are now 2,762. The seven-day average for the county is about 44 cases.

The county has seen three days lower than 40 cases this month. Prior to that, the case total hadn’t exceeded that amount since April 25.

Through September, Westmoreland County had reported more than 25 new cases only twice, on Sept. 23 and Sept. 25., when it reported 39 and 34 new cases, respectively.
