Westmoreland County adds 17 new coronavirus cases

Westmoreland County added 17 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 2,277 since the first cases were reported in March.

For the month of September, 462 new cases were reported in the county, its second-highest monthly total behind July:

August: 406 July: 763 June: 197 May: 58 April: 330 March: 61

There were no new deaths reported, leaving the county’s total at 56. In September, there were seven deaths reported in Westmoreland County.

It’s the 15th straight day to reach double-digit cases for the county, which has a seven-day average of 17 daily cases.

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 11 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county. The county has 88 ventilators, with eight in use, one by a covid-19 patient.

Westmoreland Manor, a county-owned nursing home in Hempfield, has 54 residents and 23 employees who have been infected with covid-19 since September.
