Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson announced the hiring of a new deputy.

Russell Morgan, 43, of Rostraver, was promoted to a full-time position after serving since March as a part-time investigator in the coroner’s office.

“His experience is something we wanted to utilize,” Carson said on Monday.

Morgan replaces former deputy coroner Steve Grabiak, who was hired this summer for a job in the Forensic Services Unit of the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office Detective Bureau.

Morgan is a graduate of California Area High School and holds a bachelor’s of science degree in environmental science from Southern New Hampshire University.

He has worked as a full-time emergency medical technician and was previously the paramedic supervisor with the Rostraver/West Newton Emergency Services.

Morgan also serves as a volunteer fireman.

He will earn an annual salary of nearly $52,000 as a full-time deputy coroner, Carson said.
