There is no question that longtime Westmoreland County Community College nursing professor Rebecca Gediminskas has the respect of her students and her peers.

For the third time in 20 years, they honored her as WCCC’s Outstanding Teacher of the year. Gediminskas, of Irwin, previously received the award, which faculty present after considering nominees submitted by students, in 1999 and 2010.

WCCC officials said a student nomination described Gediminskas as “knowledgeable and extremely patient” and “an amazing nurse and clinical instructor.”

In addition to her work at WCCC, Gediminskas served as a Norwin school director for 16 years.

Gediminskas holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Carlow University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been a full-time faculty member in WCCC’s nursing program since 1990. Gediminskas previously worked in nursing at the now-closed Monsour Medical Center, Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC and West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, which is part of the Allegheny Health Network.
