Water service was restored Friday afternoon to residents of the 272-unit Hempfield Towers after a line break had shut off water since early Thursday morning, a housing authority official said.

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County had repaired a waterline break near the building and had the water service restored for residents around 2 p.m. Friday, said Michael Washowich, executive director of the Westmoreland County Housing Authority,. The housing authority owns the building near the complex housing the Westmoreland Manor and Westmoreland County Prison.

The Municipal Authority and the housing authority provided water for the residents did not have any water in their apartments for about 36 hours, Washowich said.
