Anthony Fazio is the owner of Fazio’s Hair Designs on Ardmore Boulevard and Sumner Avenue in Forest Hills. A car crashed through the side wall of the business Monday, April 25, 2022.

Anthony Fazio woke Monday to a 2:30 a.m. call from Forest Hills police informing him that someone had crashed a truck into his salon, Fazio’s Hair Designs.

“When they said a hole in the wall, I didn’t expect this,” Fazio said gesturing toward an opening as tall as him. “I thought maybe a truck hit and a little hole in the wall. It’s a little bit bigger than I thought.”

Fazio, who has owned the business at Ardmore Boulevard and Sumner Avenue for 34 years, said officers told him a black pickup truck crashed through the bricks on the Sumner side of the building. A black truck bumper was propped against the outside wall amid the rubble Monday morning.

Forest Hills police did not return a phone message Monday.

Fazio, who lives in Indian Head, Fayette County, said his business is closed until further notice. He had been operating the salon alone because of the pandemic, and he owns a second location in Mt. Pleasant. The Mt. Pleasant location has been open for seven years.

He remained calm and optimistic while surveying the damage at the Forest Hills shop that provides hair care, tanning, pedicures and manicures.

Several friends stopped by to check on him and the business.

“How can you be upset?” Fazio said of the crash. “Things happen. No one got hurt. My business wasn’t open at the time. Material things can be fixed. Life can’t.”

Fazio said officers told him that there were no suspects at the scene at the time of the crash, though one piece of evidence remained.

“They do have the truck,” he said.
