State police: Men used stolen credit card, fake ID to buy trailer in Derry Township

State police in Greensburg are asking for the public’s help identifying three men who allegedly used a stolen credit card and false identification to obtain the required temporary registration plate to purchase a $3,740 trailer from a Derry Township firm.

Trooper Stephen Limani said the three black males took possession of the 14-foot, silver and black box trailer from S.A.Y. Trailers in Derry Township on March 1 after acquiring the necessary transit tags from the Auto Tag Store in Unity.

Police released surveillance photographs from the tag store this week hoping to identify the suspects.

“One of the suspects used the name Justin Carr, who doesn’t exist from Ohio, stating the trailer was needed for Carr’s construction company in Michigan, which also doesn’t exist,” Limani said.

The photographs show the trio paid cash to acquire the temporary transit tags using a fake South Carolina identification card. The men then returned to S.A.Y Trailers where they took possession of the trailer.

State police say on March 11, the trailer firm received notice from Discover the credit card used to purchase the trailer had been stolen.

Limani said investigators are still probing how the men were able to rent a U-Haul pickup truck in Hempfield to haul the trailer.
