Troopers say man threatened Hempfield woman with a sword during assault
State troopers arrested a Greensburg man on charges including simple assault and strangulation following an incident Thursday at a Hempfield home that involved a sword.
Troopers said they were dispatched for a report of a domestic disturbance and were met by a woman who reported that Nicholas J. Germano, 26, and she had gotten into an argument that turned physical.
Trooper Zachary Wolford said in court documents that Germano “grabbed the victim and threw her against the wall” and then grabbed her throat with his right hand, choking her.
When the woman told Germano she could not breath, she told police that he threatened her further harm before releasing pressure on her neck, Wolford reported.
According to court documents, the woman told Germano that she wanted him to leave. She told troopers that Germano then “grabbed a sword off the wall and began swinging it” as he yelled her.
He then left the home, police said.
Police said he was apprehended without incident at the residence on Union Cemetery Road.
Wolford said the woman declined medical treatment.
Germano is charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, terroristic threats, simple assault and strangulation.
He couldn’t be reached for comment, and he did not have an attorney listed in court documents.
Germano has no prior criminal record in Pennsylvania, according to online court dockets.
Germano was released on $2,500 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing Feb. 16.
