Troopers: Alleged abuse victim hid in Bradenville streets after assault

A Derry Township woman told state police she fled multiple beatings by her boyfriend by hiding in alleys and streets throughout the village of Bradenville near her home late Friday into Saturday.

Troopers arrested a Ligonier Township man, Richard P. Miller, 34, on two counts of simple assault and harassment after they found the 42-year-old woman while completing a welfare check at the request of a friend who was unable to reach her early Saturday morning.

Trooper Thomas Dohey reported in court documents the alleged assaults began around 9 p.m. Friday and continued “several hours” until about 3 a.m. Saturday when she fled. The victim was located at her home about 9:30 a.m. and told troopers she escaped further abuse by pretending she was asleep.

Miller, who lists an address in Wilpen, was arrested by troopers at the scene.

The woman told police that she fled the residence “in fear” after multiple assaults and hid in alleys and streets in the Bradenville area.

Dohey said the woman had visible bruises on her left arm and forearm and redness on her face and jaw.

When police questioned Miller, he said the couple was intoxicated, began arguing about their relationship “and the physical altercation was mutual.”

Dohey did not report any injuries to Miller in the police reports.

Miller was arraigned Sunday before District Judge Jason Buzcak who ordered him held in the county prison after he failed to post $20,000 bond.
