First responders work to rescue a 16-year-old boy who became stuck underneath a 3,500-pound pipe along Kemmer Hollow Road in Murrysville Monday night.

A teenager was rescued Monday night in Murrysville after being trapped for 90 minutes underneath a 3,500-pound pipe, according to emergency responders.

The 16-year-old, who was not identified, was taken to a local trauma center after being freed, according to Murrysville Medic One, which assisted in the rescue.

The first responders were notified at 8:30 p.m. Monday that the teen was trapped under a pipe along Kemmer Hollow Road, north of Export, according to the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety. The boy was stuck up to his hip and was partially buried by soil, said Darrick Gerano, administrative director for Murrysville Medic One.

Gerano said he did not know how the teen became stuck under the pipe.

A wrecker from Gombach Towing and Auto Salvage of Penn Township was able to get a cable wrapped around the pipe to lift it and slide it backwards in order for the boy to be freed, said Nia DeCenzo, a driver and office manager for Gombach Towing.

William Paiano, director of Murrysville Public Works and Parks, credited the White Valley Volunteer Fire Department for playing a key role in freeing the teen.

Neither Murrysville Police Chief Tom Seefeld nor John Bohinc, chief of the White Valley fire department, could be reached for comment Tuesday.
