Summer brews to be featured at Greensburg Craft Beer Week
After five years of providing beer lovers with an opportunity to try the latest local brews, Greensburg Craft Beer Week is undergoing changes.
This year, the 10-day event will focus on summer brews, with a move from its normal September time slot to June. In addition, the event will kick off with a craft beer festival.
“After five years, I knew I wanted to revamp this week a little bit,” said Jessica Hickey, founder of Craft Beer Week. “Moving it to June allows our breweries to create summer beers for the week instead of fall beers, and it also fosters some creativity for new events.”
This year’s event will run from June 17 through 25. The festival is set for June 18.
The ticketed event will be held at St. Clair Park in Greensburg, featuring beer from more than 20 breweries, live music and yard games. Officials are planning a VIP hour with beer and light bite pairings. Festival tickets go on sale Saturday at greensburgcraftbeerweek.com.
“Hosting an actual beer festival has been in the plans since the first year of Greensburg Craft Beer Week,” Hickey said. “With moving the whole week to June, it just made sense to do it this year.”
Greensburg Craft Beer Week began in 2017 as a way to celebrate the community and craft beer. Over the years, the event has continued to grow, featuring events that pair things such as yoga, food, music and dogs with beer. Last year, the Brewmuda Triangle took attendees to three breweries within the county.
In all, about 40 events are expected to be scheduled throughout this year’s event.
Home Brew + Chill, a home brew competition typically held during the Craft Beer Week, will become its own event, held in September. More information will be released this summer.
“There’s a lot of great events already in the works, including a block party, beer brunch, donut and beer pairing as well as special beer releases and collaboration beers,” Hickey said. “We’re really looking forward to some new events and having new breweries and businesses involved this year.”
