Storm topples trees, rips off roof in Derry Township
A storm that swept through the area Friday afternoon felled trees and power lines near Keystone State Park in Derry Township and ripped part of the roof off a home on Keystone Park Road.
Residents were present when the sub-roof and shingles were torn off a ranch house near the intersection of Flowers Road, but there was no interior damage and no injuries were reported, according to Justin Horrell, captain with the Bradenville Fire Department.
Firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. and assisted the homeowners, who used a tarp to cover the damaged area of the roof.
Toppled trees and wires shut down a section of Keystone Park Road, between Flowers and Route 981, Horrell said. Firefighters from Bradenville, New Alexandria, Blairsville and Latrobe remained on the scene until about 2:30 p.m., as West Penn Power and PennDOT crews took over cleanup of the storm damage.
Meteorologist Alicia Miller said the National Weather Service”s Pittsburgh office was considering sending a crew Saturday to investigate the scene. “It’s inconclusive whether it was straight line winds or tornadic,” she said of the storm Friday.
