A fellow Westmoreland County lawmaker has been elected to fill the Republican caucus leadership post left vancant by the death of state Rep. Mike Reese.

Rep. George Dunbar, R-Penn Township, will serve as majority caucus chair for the 2021-22 legislative session, a caucus spokesman said Tuesday.

Reese, 42, of Mt. Pleasant Township died of a brain aneurysm on Jan. 2 as he was beginning his seventh term in the state House. A special election to fill his seat has been scheduled for May 18.

Dunbar, 60, a former Penn Township commissioner and close friend of Reese, was elected to the state House in 2010. He said he was deeply honored to fill the post previously held by Reese.

The caucus chair conducts all Republican Caucus meetings and handles notifications regarding the progress of legislation.
