A Southwest Greensburg man awaiting a preliminary hearing for a March stabbing was arrested Friday after three alleged road rage incidents along Route 30 near Adamsburg.

Jason M. Walters, 37, was arrested by state police on three counts of aggravated assault and single counts of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a license after the 5 p.m. incidents along a Route 30 stretch between Adamsburg and Thompson Lane in Hempfield.

State police said three separate drivers reported being struck by Walters’ gray 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix.

A woman said she was driving westbound when Walters struck her car as he passed and continued west on the highway “at a high rate of speed.”

Later, a man said Walters chased him along the highway at a “high rate of speed, passed him and then began braking in an attempt to cause a … collision.”

When the second driver pulled off Route 30 on to Summit Drive, the witness told police that Walters did an illegal U-turn to continue the chase.

The second driver told troopers when he stopped at a stop sign, “Walters intentionally sideswiped his vehicle on the entire driver’s side.” The second driver also told troopers that Walters “then did a second illegal U-turn” and rammed his vehicle from behind before fleeing.

Police said a third victim reported being struck by Walters at an intersection of Arona Road and Route 30.

Trooper Thomas Mortimer said police tracked Walters through his license plate, which was registered to a South Huntingdon residence.

Mortimer said police discovered a 9 mm handgun inside the vehicle when they arrived. He said court records indicated Walters has a prior conviction for aggravated assault, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

”Walters indicated numerous times his driving was due to being enraged by how the other vehicles were driving on the roadway,” Mortimer reported.

Jeannette District Judge Joseph DeMarchis ordered Walters held in the county jail on $25,000 bond. An attorney for Walters is not listed in court documents. DeMarchis scheduled a hearing on the most recent case for Sept. 3.

Walters has been free on $100,000 bond since his arrest by county detectives and Southwest Greensburg police on charges of aggravated and simple assault for allegedly stabbing a man in a borough alley near his home March 13. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing Sept. 29 in that case, according to court dockets.

On March 13, police were called to an alley behind 600 South Main St. a report of a man who had been stabbed in the chest and had several facial contusions.

A witness who lives nearby told police that he “saw Walters put the victim in a headlock and appear to punch the victim, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of Walters’ white Jeep SUV” that was parked in the alley, according to court papers.

The alleged victim was flown UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with multiple injuries.

Southwest Greensburg Police Sgt. Todd Brant and County Detective Randall Gardner interviewed Walters, “who admitted” he punched the man numerous times in the face as he was sitting in the vehicle and “nicking” him with a knife. A female witness told police that she saw Walters hit the man multiple times.

The man told police that he suffered a fractured nose and had multiple sutures to close a stab wound in his chest.
