The Sheetz along the westbound lanes of Route 30 in North Huntingdon will be demolished next summer and replaced with a new site including drive-through, the convenience store chain said.

The North Huntingdon commissioners Wednesday approved the permit for the demolition of the store and the site plan for a new 6,139-square-foot site at the corner of Route 30 and North Thompson Lane, about one-quarter mile east of the Pennsylvania Turnpike entrance.

Altoona-based Sheetz also will demolish the existing canopies over the fuel pumps, said Nick Ruffner, a Sheetz spokesman.

The construction of the new store on the two-acre site will begin next summer and the new store is expected to be open for business in the summer of 2026, Ruffner said.

Once the store is closed, Sheetz employees at that site will be offered other jobs in the company temporarily while the demolition and rebuild is underway, Ruffner added. Sheetz has a store on Ronda Court, off the eastbound lanes of Route 30 in North Huntingdon, and one in the western end of North Huntingdon, at the intersection of Route 30 and Carpenter Lane.

The new store design will offer customers a restaurant-style experience, including self-service kiosks, with seating inside and outside the store and drive-through service, Ruffner said.

Sheetz has demolished its older stores in Greensburg and New Stanton and replaced them with the company’s newer design.
